sexual assault and administering dangerous drugs

PHOENIX -- Former NFL All-Pro safety Darren Sharper has been indicted in Arizona on charges of sexual assault and administering dangerous drugs, authorities said Wednesday, marking the latest development in investigations in five states involving the Super Bowl champion. A Maricopa County grand jury indicted Sharper in sexual assaults allegedly committed on Nov. 21 in Tempe. The four-page indictment dated Tuesday accuses the 38-year-old Sharper of two counts of sexual assault and three counts of administering dangerous drugs. Sharper knowingly administered the sedative zolpidem to three different victims and then had "sexual intercourse or oral sexual contact" with two of them without their consent, the document states. Sharper is currently in custody in Los Angeles, where he has pleaded not guilty to seven rape and drug counts in connection with two alleged attacks in Hollywood. He had been freed on $1 million bail before turning himself in when an arrest warrant was issued in New Orleans. In Arizona, police reports released earlier say two women in their early 20s had claimed Sharper drugged and sexually assaulted them at a Tempe apartment after a group including Sharper went drinking at bars in nearby Scottsdale. One of the women told police she hadnt had any alcohol that night until Sharper insisted she drink a shot. Another young woman said she had been drugged then went to bed, locked her door and wasnt attacked. The next day, one of the women confronted Sharper, who denied wrongdoing, according to the reports. The reports said Sharper was in Arizona to visit a woman who lived at the apartment. The two had met about a year earlier in Las Vegas. Skip Donau, a Tucson attorney who represents Sharper in the Arizona case, declined to discuss specifics. "We know that Darren will vigorously deny the allegations," Donau said. "We are hopeful of vindication." In Los Angeles, Superior Court Judge Renee Korn said last week that it was unfair to hold Sharper in jail there "into perpetuity" and gave prosecutors in Louisiana until Thursday to charge him or otherwise seek his return. Prosecutors in New Orleans said Wednesday that Sharper would not be indicted by that deadline and the investigation remained open. It could not be immediately determined if Arizona authorities would ask that Sharper be held longer in Los Angeles or would seek his extradition. Jerry Cobb, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorneys Office, declined to comment. Sharper is also under investigation in Florida and Nevada. In a bail motion filed last month, Los Angeles County Investigator John Maccharella described a pattern in which the former football star met women at clubs or parties and lured them to a hotel room, where they were allegedly drugged and raped. The New Orleans warrant says police learned from witnesses that Sharper and an associate had acknowledged having nonconsensual sex with two women. Sharpers attorneys say he never made such statements. The warrant does not elaborate on how the information was obtained or disclose the names of the witnesses. Sharper was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times. He played in two Super Bowls, one with the Green Bay Packers as a rookie and was part of a successful championship run while with the New Orleans Saints. He retired after the 2010 season and was working as an analyst for the NFL Network before being fired recently. Nike Schoenen Belgie . LA (SportsNetwork. Nike Schoenen Korting . Only when the Seattle Mariners left fielder tumbled to the ground did Ackley know hed robbed Travis dArnaud of a home run. "I knew I felt something. I didnt know if I felt it hit off my glove or go in the web, but when I came down is when I knew I had it," Ackley said. "I was like, Well something is in there." Ackley had three hits to go along with his outstanding catch, Kyle Seager drove in two runs and Mike Zunino homered into the second deck in the Mariners 5-2 win over the New York Mets on Monday night. After losing two of three to the Angels after the All-Star break, Seattle got a solid start from Roenis Elias and improved to 8-2 all-time against the Mets. Elias (8-8) threw 5 1-3 innings before leaving with cramping in his left forearm. Seattles bullpen was stellar the rest of the way, helped by Ackleys grab to steal a home run from dArnaud in the sixth. "How about that catch?" Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I think it really goes back to the work he put in in spring training ... and he really, really worked hard to improve his outfield play, and he continues to work hard." Seager had RBI singles in his first two at-bats and Zunino hit his 14th homer of the season, an estimated 415-foot shot off starter Jonathon Niese (5-5) into the second deck in left field. Ackley added an RBI double in the eighth. "Ive felt pretty good and the results are there, too," Ackley said. "That helps build the confidence." Elias took advantage of a long break between starts -- he hadnt pitched since July 9. He looked rested and his improved command led to eight strikeouts and two walks. Elias had retired five of six batters when he looked down at his hand after throwing a pitch to Lucas Duda leading off the sixth. Elias was immediately visited by trainers and McClendon. The left-hander threw a couple of warmup pitches and stayed in, striking out Duda on a 2-2 pitch. That was enough for McClendon, who immediately signalled to the bullpen. Elias walked off to a nice ovation, but with a trainer at his side and continuing to try to stretch his hannd.ddddddddddddSeattle announced Elias left with cramping in his left forearm and McClendon said there was no worry as of now about it being a lingering problem. "I didnt want to take a chance," McClendon said. "He was outstanding." Dominic Leone took over and was immediately greeted by a deep drive from dArnaud. Ackley found the left-field fence, got just enough elevation to get his glove over the wall and made the catch in the webbing of his glove. Niese came off the disabled list before the game. He hadnt pitched since leaving in the first inning July 4 against Texas when he was struck in the back by Alex Rios line drive. The left-hander was placed on the DL two days later with a left shoulder strain. Nieses streak of 21 straight starts giving up three earned runs or less was snapped when Willie Bloomquist collected his third hit, an RBI double in the fourth inning for a 4-1 Seattle lead. David Wright had an RBI single on the 10th anniversary of his debut in the majors, but the Mets only other run came on second baseman Robinson Canos error in the ninth that allowed Juan Lagares to score. New York lost its third straight after winning eight of nine. "You look at every game since the All-Star break and weve been outhomered," manager Terry Collins said. "That was what was getting us going, and youre not going to ask guys to start swinging for the fences, but it helps out when we hit the ball out of the ballpark."
